Amy se réveilla au petit matin. Jackie était encore endormie. Elles avaient dû dériver sur une grande distance pendant la nuit, parce qu'Amy pouvait voir la côte où poussaient de petits arbres. Il semblait y avoir de la neige au loin, seulement au sommet des collines. « Enfin, pensa Amy, nous sommes arrivées dans le Sud! »
Elle se tourna alors vers Jackie pour lui annoncer la nouvelle, quand elle réalisa que la banquise sur laquelle elles se trouvaient fondait rapidement. « Oh non! », cria Jackie, en se réveillant. « Monte sur mon dos, ma chérie. Je vais t’aider à atteindre la rive. »
Quand elles arrivèrent sur la plage rocheuse, Amy demanda à Jackie :
- Où allons-nous maintenant?
- Je suis désolée ma chérie, je ne peux aller plus loin dans le Sud. Je ne supporte pas la chaleur. Certains disent que si le soleil se réchauffe, le Nord fondra. Peux-tu l'imaginer? Ce serait un désastre! Quoi qu'il en soit, continue à marcher vers le Sud, ma chérie. Je vais demander à mon ami de venir te guider. Bonne chance!
艾咪很早就起來了，而Jackie仍在睡夢之中，他們一定在晚上漂流一段很遠的距離，因為愛咪可以看見一個綠意盎然的岸邊，從遠處看，那裡似乎只能在山頂上看見雪。

Amy woke up in the early morning. Jackie was still asleep. They must have drifted on a great distance during the night, because Amy could see a nearby shore where some small trees were growing. There seemed to be snow only on the top of the hills in the distance. “Finally, thought Amy, we’ve arrived in the South!”
She then turned towards Jackie to give her the exciting news, when she realized the ice bank on which they were standing was quickly melting. “Oh no!”, shouted Jackie, waking up. “Climb on my back, darling. I will help you get to the shore.”
When they arrived on the rocky beach, Amy asked the walrus: “Where are we going now?” “I’m sorry darling, I can’t go further in the South. I don’t stand the heat. Some say that if the Sun keeps getting warmer, the North will all be melting away. Can you imagine it? It would be a disaster! Anyway, keep walking South, darling. I will ask my friend to come guide you. Good luck!”
